Powercut causes mayhem for Clayton residents

IMG_0606-2.JPGShortly after children arrived home from school and as many people returned home from work on Thursday they were greeted by a complete blackout across Clayton.  Northern Power Grid were not available for comment but messages across their social media indicated multiple issues across Clayton as well as Clayton Heights, Queensbury, Denholme and Thornton.

The power was off for almost 2-hours and it caused major disruption to local businesses, many whom decided to close early for the day due to the essential nature of their business,  including the Co-op which still remained closed at 8:00pm despite reconnection of the power at about 6.30pm.  An employee at the Co-op explained that it is unlikely that they would reopen until the following morning due to technical problems with the cash registers caused by the powercut.
