The Parish Council is deeply saddened to announce the death of Councillor Robert Spencer

The Parish Council is deeply saddened to announce the death of Councillor Robert Spencer, on Friday, 11th November 2016, after a sudden illness

Councillor Spencer had lived in Clayton for over 50 years and was a founding member of the Parish Council, elected as the first Chairman.  He was instrumental, working tirelessly with the founding Councillors, to establish the Council in those early years, getting it up and running into what we see and benefit from today.

During his time, when not serving on the council, Councillor Spencer and his wife worked for many years as volunteers in the Village Hall involved with many responsibilities including catering, bingo and coffee morning duties.

He remained very active right up to his very last days, attending his last meeting for the Parish Council only three weeks ago.  Many of us had the pleasure of serving on various committees and working groups alongside Councillor Spencer and he made a valuable contribution to life in his community and the Parish Council.  He was a true, honest gentleman and an inspiration to us all.

Councillor Spencer will be sorely missed by his fellow members, officers and staff of the Parish Council and our sincere condolences go to his wife Margaret and family.

 God bless.
